BIO
Thanks to the musical influence of his family, Calmet began his musical journey at an early age while growing up in Lima, Peru. His family exposed him to all kinds of styles and genres of music, including Brazilian, Peruvian, salsa, rock and jazz. This inspired him to start learning to play guitar and drums. At 18, when his musical career was just beginning to flourish, he was already recording with local musicians, working as a session drummer with different bands and playing live regularly. Calmet's musical personality has always been very broad, he would be considered primarily an improviser, but he also appreciates and has a great fascination for architectural music. When he lived in Dublin, he was considered one of the most acclaimed and versatile drummers in addition to being a great force in drums, music education and composition. Currently in Granada, Spain, he has quickly integrated into the Spanish music scene, in addition to being part of the new Jazz School in Granada.
He has played with Kurt Rosenwinkel, Cory Wong (Vulfpeck), Edmar Castañeda, Sidiki Dembele, Ralph Rolle (CHIC), Paddy Maloney (The Chieftains), Curti Fowlkes (Louis Bellson) to name a few.
Has shared stages with Mark Guiliana, FORQ, Roy Ayers, Lee Fields, Cory Henry, Tom Rainey, y Christian Scott amongst other big names.
